Why convert HTML to Word?
HTML→DOCX is the usual bridge from a CMS or static site back into an editorial workflow. A policy page, a research dump, or a blog draft often needs a Word file for legal review. Building the DOCX here avoids 'open in Word and hope the HTML import is sane' on someone else's machine.
How this conversion runs
HTML is parsed into blocks (headings, paragraphs, lists, tables, preformatted text, data-URL images). Those blocks are mapped onto WordprocessingML runs: h1–h6 become Heading styles, <strong>/<em> become bold/italic, and <a href> becomes a hyperlink. The result is a ZIP with word/document.xml, not a .doc binary and not 'HTML saved with a Word extension'.
Keep in mind for HTML → Word
CSS layout does not travel. Multi-column pages, sticky headers, and grid galleries collapse into a linear document. Web fonts are not embedded; Word will substitute. Scripts are removed before conversion, so interactive calculators and forms will not appear as content controls. Floating figures may become inline images with a fixed size.
After you have a Word file
Open the .docx in Word or Docs and apply your organization's template if you need official styles. If reviewers only need a PDF, convert this DOCX onward — or go HTML→PDF directly and skip Word if nobody will comment. Macros (.docm) are never produced.
Will my Word template's styles apply?
Not automatically. The file uses built-in Heading and Normal styles. In Word, use 'Change styles' or copy into a templated document so your house styles attach.
Can I convert a whole website?
Drop one HTML document at a time. Linked pages, CSS files, and asset folders are not crawled. Save or export a single article first.

Microsoft Word (Office Open XML)
The default Word format since 2007: a ZIP package of XML parts for body text, styles, media, and document settings.
DOCX (Office Open XML WordprocessingML) replaced the binary .doc format. It is the interchange format for business documents: resumes, contracts, manuscripts. Word, Google Docs, LibreOffice, Pages, and OnlyOffice all read and write it. Macros live in a sibling .docm type, which this converter does not execute or emit.
